MARC JACOBS SPRING 2014

Opening to menacing music from Jaws, Marc Jacobs Spring 2014 collection was revealed amongst an apocalyptic scene. Backstage, prior to the revelation of his new designs, Marc Jacobs joked ‘something bright and cheerful’; rather his Spring ’14 collection was dark, gothic, yet defiantly beautiful.
For his Spring 2014 collection, he has openly stated that his primary influence wasJamie Bochert, although amongst others.
Marc Jacobs designs felt like he had looked to the past for inspiration with aprominent Victorian feel. Elegant high neck lace collars were amongst those designs.
Prominent colours were black, petrol blue and a deep bottle green; not the typical Spring colour palette. The collection took a masculine approach to Spring wear with boy-shorts, over-scaled shoulders and plimsolls. The stand-out print was a giant leafy pattern.
Marc Jacobs defied convention in a charming and beautiful manner. The theatrics surrounding the runway could not distract from the intricacies of Marc Jacobs designs.
